ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

 

This Department of Public Administration was established during the academic year 1968-1969, as part of the erstwhile Post-Graduate Centre of Osmania University in 1976 emerged as Independent Department.  Ph.D. Programme in Public Administration was started in the year 1976 and M.Phil. Programme was started in 1979.  The Department was further strengthened in 1991 by the addition of P.G. Department of Public Administration at the University P.G. College, Nirmal, Adilabad District.  The addition of Political Science wing in 1985, the Department had become a composite Department of Political Science and Public Administration. Afterwords  the Department was bifurcated into two in 1992.  A Professional P.G. Course, Master of Human Resource Management (MHRM) was started in 1993.  Consequently its name was rechristened as the Department of Public Administration and Human Resource Management and the same course was also introduced at University Arts & Science College, Warangal under Self-finance Scheme. M.Phil. (Human Resource Management) was started in the year 1998 and Ph.D. Programme in Human Resource Management was also started in the year 2001.

 

Most of  the faculty members have undertaken visits abroad and participated in International Seminars and other academic events.  The Faculty of the Department has worked and visited prestigious institutes of higher learning in India and abroad like: Concordia and Athabasca Universities (Canada); University of East Anglia (U.K.); South Asia Institute, University of Heidelberg (Germany); Institute of Irrigation Studies, The University of South Ampton, (U.K.); Cleveland State University (USA); Department of Business Management, University of Asmara (Eritrea East Africa).  The Indian Institute of Economics (Hyderabad); Southern Regional Centre for Training and Research in Municipal Administration of the Ministry of works, Housing and Urban Development, Government of India; Institute for Social and Economic Change (Bangalore); Centre for Economic and Social Studies (Hyderabad).

 

The UGC has sanctioned SAP for five years on "Gender and Agrarian Reforms" . Seven teachers of the department were honoured with Best Teacher Awards by the State Government. It has so far guided 175 Ph.D. scholars and 83 M.Phil scholars for their respective degrees. It brings out the KU Journal of Social Sciences. The Department has undertaken 63 major and minor research projects sponsored by different funding agencies and published 132 books. The Thrust areas  of Research  i.e. Tribal Development, Rural Development, Policy Studies, Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations and Gender Studies.  The Department had been providing academic and administrative leadership to the University since its inception.
