Publication of Kakatiya Journal of English Studies

The Department of English has been publishing an annual research journal, The Kakatiya Journal of English Studies (KJES) out of its research grants since 1978. Some of the special issues brought out are: Rabindranath Tagore, Mulk Raj Anand, Modern Indian Aesthetic Thought, Indian English Novel, Indian Literature in Translation and Films, Mahasweta Devi, Post-Colonial Literatures, etc. Eminent scholars like Jack Lindsay, R.T. Robertson, Alistair Niven, Saros Cowasjee, Mulk Raj Anand, Nissim Ezekiel, Krishna Rayan, Sisir Kumar Ghose, K. R. Srinivasa Iyengar and Shiv K. Kumar, K. Krishna Moorthy have contributed to this journal. Articles published in KJES by the faculty too have won acclaim in the academic world, having been cited in international editions. For instance, Prof. A Jaganmohana Chari’s article on Auden’s Detective Story has been included in the International Bibliography on W H Auden by Prof Edward Mendelson of Columbia University in 1983. An article by Dr P Mallikarjuna Rao on Kamala Das was included in the reference work on Modern Women Writers edited by Lilian Robinson published by Coutimun Publishing Company of New York. Four of the articles published by Prof M. Rajagopalachary in KJES have been included in different collections of articles by The Atlantic Publishers, Prestige Publications, and Potti Sri Ramulu Telugu University. Some of the articles of Mr. K. Damodar Rao, and Prof M. Rajagopalachary have also been cited by other scholars in their books, articles and research publications.

Language Laboratory

The Department has established a Language Lab with 43 computers, 2 DLP Projectors, a scanner, language software, TV, VCR and Audio systems to serve the needs of the students of the backward region of Telangana.

Development of Audio-visual Educational Programmes

The Department is the first in the University to contribute 110 Radio lessons on ELT and 13 on Indian Writing in English and two video programmes to the UGC Countrywide Classroom Programme. The staff members have devised Audio lessons on ELT which were broadcast by All India Radio. Prof P. Mallikarjuna Rao has produced 3 Radio lessons on Teaching Poetry. Prof. M. Rajagopalachary has produced a few Radio lessons on different subjects including Teaching of Vocabulary, Nobel Prize winner Doris Lessing, Prominent Telugu Journalists of Warangal.

Expertise as Resource Persons

Senior Professors of the Department of English have been regularly serving as resource persons at Refresher Courses as subject experts at interviews, etc.   Prof P. Mallikarjuna Rao, Prof M. Rajagopalachary, Prof G. Damodar, Prof. M. Rajeshwar and Prof. K, Purushotham have delivered several extension lectures at different Universities in the state and outside as Resource Persons in the Refresher Courses, Departments, Seminars and Workshops.
