The Department of Telugu has been functioning from the inception of the Kakatiya University. Previously it was started in 1967 under the leadership of eminent scholar Prof. B. Rama Raju at the Arts & Science College Campus as part of the P.G. Centre under the jurisdiction of the Osmania University.  And, it was shifted to the P.G. Centre Campus at Vidyaranyapuri. Having started with a staff of four members, it was upgraded to the status of a Department at the Kakatiya University in 1976, and the Department moved into the present Humanities Building in 1980.  The Department has been gradually progressing. The Department has completed 56 years successfully.
